Both sides are usable and is easily folded for storage. To use, simply place mat on a surface suitable for your pet to lie on. The mat will stay cool for 2-4 hours at a time. After use, let the mat rest for 30-60 mins in a cool place, alternatively if you place the cool mat in a refridgerator for 15-30 minutues this will quickly recharge the cooling gel.
